On September 3rd morning, HOPE worldwide Indonesia who are serving communities in over 17 cities in Indonesia and has a worldwide network of impact, spoke to our 14 groups of academy students who volunteered to take part in this challenging Hope-a-thon. They learnt about the challenging work HOPE does in four areas
1. Saturday Academy where underserved children get tutoring and additional learning support
2. Mother and Child Health where mothers are supported to better nourish and educate their children
3. Computer skills training where learners get the needed skills to better their knowledge and employability
4. Disaster Relief, especially at that time when their team members were on the grounds of Lombok to bring relief after the many earthquakes experienced
The teams investigated specific areas further and deeper to gain greater understanding of the true needs and possible solutions. 48 hours of frenetic yet focused work flew by at the Apple Developer Academy @ Binus ( Green Office Park 9) where the 14 groups used their academy training to synthesize their findings into possible solutions and designed some incredible applications during those few intense days.
On September 5th morning, the winner was announced. First place went to “HopIn” app which best serves programs such as HOPE’s Saturday Academy, allowing volunteers to register and choose programs according to their respective skills efficiently as well as allowing NGOs such as HOPE to digitally select and verify volunteer data. Besides a very user-friendly and effective design, other features that stood out included:
– Communication between organizers and volunteers facilitated through a chat feature
– Database management that allowed cross platform usage
HOPE worldwide Indonesia was delighted and amazed at the results achieved in such a short period of time and were greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm of the many students who took their challenge to help the important work done by such organizations so seriously. Keep up the great work, HOPE, our students are inspired and strive to continue to support your efforts.
