What is Apple Developer Academy (as an institution)?

The Apple Developer Academy is a global initiative by Apple designed to cultivate the next generation of well-rounded, world-class app developers, designers, and entrepreneurs. In particular, in Indonesia, our goal is to strengthen and empower the economy by fostering world-class developers for the world’s most innovative, dynamic, and vibrant application development ecosystem.

The Apple Developer Academy in Indonesia is the first initiative of its kind in Southeast Asia. With academies located in Tangerang, Surabaya, Batam, Jakarta and Bali, the program welcomes interested participants from across Indonesia and beyond. The Apple Developer Academy @BINUS, Bali is also the first in Indonesia to accept international students from around the world.


What is the Apple Developer Academy Program?

The Apple Developer Academy offers a 9-month learning journey to interested applicants aged 18 and above from any discipline, educational background or coding experience.

The Academy program uses the Challenge-Based Learning framework to encourage students to address personal, community, and global challenges. Over the nine months, the program covers the basics of coding, as well as areas such as design, marketing, and project management, empowering students with the full suite of skills needed to become world-class entrepreneurs and developers.

Additional support varies by location:

  • Learners in Batam may receive dorm allowances and access to shuttle bus services
  • International learners in Bali will receive assistance with the visa process. However, you are responsible for your own housing, visa fees, living, and travel expenses during the program

How long is the program?

The program (learning period) runs for 9 months, beginning in March and concluding in December each year.

Please note that onboarding activities will begin in February, and participants may be required to attend in-person sessions at the Academy before the official program starts.

The exact start date will be announced separately.


What is the daily time commitment for the program?

This is a fully in-person program (not online), and participants are required to commit to 20 hours per week, typically 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday.

Each Academy operates with two sessions options, which differ slightly by location:

Who will I work with at the Academy?

You’ll collaborate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, and ages. They come from diverse areas of expertise, not only technology and design, but also healthcare, performing arts, fashion, psychology, and more.

So far, participants have included housewives, professionals, university students, inventors, teachers, and even government officials.

The Academy values interdisciplinary collaboration, so you’ll be working in diverse teams that reflect real-world scenarios.


What is the learning methodology used in the Academy?

The Apple Developer Academy uses Challenge-Based Learning (CBL), a collaborative, hands-on approach to education that encourages learners to:

Is the Apple Developer Academy program free?

Yes, the Apple Developer Academy program is completely free of charge. There are no application fees, administrative fees, or monthly tuition costs.

If I’m not a coder, can I still succeed at the Academy & Foundation programs?

Absolutely. You don’t need to have a coding background or programming experience to join. Applicants from all disciplines are welcome.

What matters most is your ability to think logically, collaborate effectively, and communicate ideas clearly. All the necessary technical and non-technical skills will be introduced as part of the curriculum.

Everyone in the program is given the same opportunity to learn and grow. As long as you are highly motivated and committed to making a positive impact on your community and environment, you will thrive at the Academy.

What are the eligibility requirements to participate in the program?

To be eligible for the Apple Developer Academy program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old by March 1 of the year the Academy begins.
  • Indonesian applicants must have a valid Indonesian Citizenship ID (KTP) and reside in Indonesia.
  • International applicants must also be at least 18 years old by March 1 (or of legal age in their home country, whichever is higher) and must be eligible for an Indonesian student visa. (You can check visa requirements here).
  • Open to individuals from all backgrounds, including fresh graduates, part-time workers, full-time employees, business owners, and professionals from non-tech fields such as design, business, or other specialized domains.
  • Able to commit to the full 9-month, on-site program from March to December.
  • Must be available for at least 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday, during the selected session.
  • Must commit to one session (morning or afternoon), selected during the application process. Session changes are not allowed once the program starts.
  • Ideal candidates are team players with strong collaboration and communication skills, self-motivation, creativity, and a passion for solving real-world problems and building impactful solutions through applications.

Note: Individuals who have previously participated in any Apple Developer Academy program are not eligible to apply again.


When will the program application open?

Applications for the Apple Developer Academy typically open between March and April each year, followed by a multi-step selection process.

Candidates who successfully pass all selection stages will participate in the program from March to December of the following year. We may run up to two batches per year*, but each applicant may only apply for one batch per year.

What are the steps to complete my application?

To complete your application, you must:

  1. Fill out and complete the online application form.
  2. Upload your resume and portfolio.
  3. Submit your application form before the application closes.
  4. The invitation to the online test will be sent to you once your application is completed and submitted.

What do I need to prepare to apply?

You will need to prepare the following documents for submission:

  • A resume
  • A portfolio showcasing your work, skills, or projects

Both documents are required to proceed to the Online Test stage.


Can I apply without submitting a resume or portfolio?

No. Both the resume and portfolio are mandatory in order to move forward in to proceed with the application process.


Is the application process free?

Yes. The entire application process is free of charge.
The Apple Developer Academy will never ask for any fees at any stage.

Can I discontinue my participation in the program?

The Apple Developer Academy requires a full-time commitment throughout the 9-month program. Withdrawing midway of the program is strongly discouraged.


What will I learn during the program?

The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in app development and professional skills. It includes:

  • Coding (using Swift programming language)
  • UI/UX design
  • Project management
  • Business skills
  • Collaboration in multidisciplinary teams
  • Professional skills

Are the programs conducted online or onsite?

The program is conducted onsite at the Apple Developer Academy location where you are accepted. This is not an online or remote program.


Can I enroll in the Apple Developer Academy without owning an Apple device?

Yes. You do not need to own any Apple devices to join the Academy. MacBooks, iPhones, and other necessary Apple devices will be provided on loan for the duration of the program.


Can I join if I don’t know how to code?

Absolutely. Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome, and no prior coding experience is required.

The program is designed to support learners of all skill levels, and you'll be guided through the necessary technical and professional skills throughout the journey.


What if I’m not fluent in English?

That’s okay. For most academies, fluency in English is not a requirement, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to improve your English as you collaborate with peers.

However, for Apple Developer Academy @BINUS, Bali, which accepts international students, English is the primary language of instruction and collaboration. A basic understanding of English is expected.

Please also note that some parts of the selection test are in English.


Will I receive a certificate after graduation?

Yes, all graduates will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing the program.


Can I switch from the morning session to the afternoon session (or vice versa)?

No. Once you’ve selected a session (morning or afternoon) during the recruitment process, you are expected to remain in that session for the entire duration of the program.

Can foreigners apply?

Yes. International applicants are welcome to apply to the Apple Developer Academy @BINUS, Bali.


How many times can I apply?

You may apply once per year to each Academy and can select up to three locations in your application.


Can I apply to more than one Academy?

Yes. You may choose up to three Academy locations in your application.


Can I transfer to a different Academy after being accepted?

No. Transfers between Academy locations are not allowed.


Is there an age limit?

There is no maximum age limit to apply. However, applicants must be at least 18 years old by March 1 in the year the Academy program begins.


Can I apply if I’ve just graduated from high school?

Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.


Can I participate in the program if I'm a university student?

Yes, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.


Can the program count toward university credits?

It depends on your university and department. Some may accept it for credit, others may not. Please check back to you university or institute.


Can I apply if I work full-time (Monday–Friday)?

Yes, as long as you can accommodate the Academy’s schedule and commit to attending the full in-person program. Many of our past learners were working full-time during their time in the academy.


I am an alumnus/alumna or currently enrolled in an Apple Developer Academy. Can I still apply for the next cohort?

No. Applicants must not be current participants or alumni of any Apple Developer Academy program anywhere in the world.

What are the selection tests?

The selection process includes an Online Test and an Interview.


What language is the test in?

The tests are conducted in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. However, if you choose the Bali location, the entire test will be in English.


What are the selection criteria for the program?

The online test is just one component of the overall assessment. Applicants are evaluated based on a combination of their test results, interview performance, resume, and portfolio. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong potential, high motivation to learn, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.


Will my answer to the question 'I consider my strength to primarily be in' affect the selection result?

No, it will not affect the selection result. We use your answer to help understand your goals and to support group formation.


When is the Online Test?

You’ll receive the test access via email after the application batch closes. Check your email regularly.


What will be tested in the Online Test?

The Online Test primarily consists of logic-based questions, with a few covering basic programming concepts and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).


How will I know if I’ve been accepted into the Academy or Foundation Program?

You will receive an official announcement via email from the Academy. Please ensure that you use and monitor an active email address throughout the entire application process.


What if I miss the Online Test?

You’ll need to reapply next year.


Do I take multiple tests if I apply to more than one Academy?

No. The Online Test is taken once. However, interviews are conducted separately for each Academy.


What is the selection process?

The selection process consists of the following steps:

Can I reapply later in the same year if I’m not accepted?

No. You may only apply once per year.

What is a portfolio?

A portfolio showcases your best work or projects that reflect your passion and skills. These can include digital products, designs, entrepreneurial work, case studies, or innovative solutions. Do academic scores or past achievements matter?

They may support your application but are not the main criteria for selection.


Does my resume have to be in English?

You may submit your resume in Bahasa Indonesia or English, whichever language you are most comfortable with and proficient in.


What types of links are acceptable for my portfolio?

Please share links that are publicly accessible. These can be from platforms like GitHub, Behance, LinkedIn, Dropbox, and others. We will only review content that is directly accessible. Avoid personal cloud storage links that require passwords or account sharing.

What is the Foundation Program?

The Foundation Program is a short, challenge-based introduction (up to 4 weeks) to Apple’s learning framework, where participants design and prototype iOS apps.


How long is the Foundation Program?

The program runs for 4 weeks, with daily sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday


What will I get after joining the Foundation Program?

If you are accepted into the Foundation Program, you will receive a MacBook and an iPhone on loan to use throughout the duration of the program. Upon successful completion, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from the Apple Developer Academy.


How do I apply for the Foundation Program?

To apply for the Foundation Program, please contact the Apple Developer Academy Indonesia admin to express your interest.

Note that registration for the Foundation Program is private and not open year-round. Once registration opens, you will be notified and provided access to the online application form.


If I’m an alumnus/alumna of the Foundation Program, can I still apply to the Academy Program?

Yes! Foundation Program alumni are welcome to apply to the 9-month Academy Program, as long as you meet all eligibility requirements.
